A new pet gadget has hit the market, and it aims to provide cats who live indoors with a regular dose of much-needed exercise.
The One Fast Cat is based on the concept of a hamster wheel and works in exactly the same way; the cat hops on and as it starts walking, the wheel spins.
'It's good for cats to get some sort of workout and changing it up to keep them interested is important,' writes Californian inventor Sean Farley on his product's Kickstarter page.
The run surface on the One Fast Cat - which currently retails for $199, with prices set to increase once the Kickstarter campaign is over - is made from a special 'closed cell EVA foam' to prevent claws from catching, according to its website.
About half of U.S. domestic cats are estimated to live inside, and there certainly is evidence to suggest that under stimulated or inactive cats can develop behavioral issues as a result.
'There have been more and more tests showing that cats kept inside can become bored and develop cat depression and other psychological problems,' One Fast Cat's website reads.
In field testing our cat wheel has proven to not only enhance the physical well-being of our cat but altered her disposition to be more relaxed and calm.'
It is unclear quite how an owner is supposed to encourage their feline friend onto the wheel in the first place, but the star of the product's video does appears to be relishing its workout.
And clearly a vast quantity of pet lovers have faith. With 17 days still left on the Kickstarter clock, One Fast Cat has raised almost ten times their goal of $10,000; now approaching $100,000 in pledges.
The first batch of exercise wheels are expected to ship in September.
